„Bertalan Thuróczy, biomedical engineer, writer, athlete. He works in medical device development. Meanwhile, he wrote a book about how he had to face death.
The young man from Rákóczifalva was diagnosed with cancer at age 21. But even amidst his chemotherapy treatments, he continued his studies at the Budapest University of Technology.
He considers the greatest achievement of his life so far to be his complete recovery from his illness. For this, he needed his extraordinary willpower, his faith in life, science, sports, and writing. He took up long-distance running, and summarized his special story in his book titled Running, Believing, Living (Futni, hinni, élni). In it, he describes his story, how – in his own words – he went from a “village peasant lad” to an engineer, and what superhuman difficulties he had to overcome on the road to his childhood dreams.
Yet through his positive outlook on life, his dreams can come true: he graduated as a biomedical engineer, and even has a development based on his own idea. This is a glove equipped with sensors that has a heating system, and using an artificial intelligence machine learning algorithm, the device can prevent a type of peripheral disorder.
His motto: Every minute counts! He tries to live his life so that there are no wasted hours or minutes, since he knows best what a great treasure a healthy life is, and he wants to maintain this in the long term.”
