Years locked in bits – what are the sirens singing?

At the Savanna Trail race, in 40-degree heat, I use Homer’s sirens as a metaphor for the years I invested into FPGA programming. How many of us realise only years later that we followed the wrong sirens?

At the Savanna Trail race, in 40-degree heat, I used the metaphor of Homer’s sirens to reflect on how much time and energy I once invested into learning FPGA programming at the Technical University – a field that never became my real path.

During the race I got lost for seven minutes when the map on my GPS watch froze. Sometimes the compass we trust most is the one that fails.

The question I raise: how many people realise only years later that for a while they were following the song of the wrong sirens?
